Expo

“Taking inspiration from the golden age of Expos, where the new, the innovative and the exciting were brought together under one roof to delight and amaze, Sound City Expo brings the newest and most forward-thinking exhibitors to the Echo Arena in Liverpool – providing access for both consumers and music/digital professionals to the people, tools and services they will need as we move ever onwards in the digital age. As a reaction to the traditional, staid music trade-shows that have proliferated the calendar, Sound City Expo will focus on the current and future intersection of music, art, business and technology – giving a real insight into what is possible in the modern age. SCE will be fully integrated into both the convention and festival offerings of Liverpool Sound City,  manifest in live demos, masterclasses, discussions and more – all of the same high standard as LSC itself and featuring many performers and speakers”.

Brazilian participation

As part of BrasilMusicExchange’s effort, during the 2012 edition of Liverpool Sound City the country and it’s interests will be represented both during the conference and the music festival.  BMA’s project will be participating through one of the heads of BME, Irish producer based in Sao Paulo David McLoughlin, who will be talking about the Brazilian music market, opportunities and further information about the country’ dynamic during a scheduled Roundtable. Musically speaking, Brazil will also be on stage during the festival. National groups such as Anna-Anna (Rio de Janeiro) and Some Community (São Paulo) have confirmed there shows and are officially included on the program.

European magazines eye on Brazilian music

25 May, 2011 | Music Market

Based in London, the magazine Sounds and Colours is a great showcase in England for Sudamerican music. Subtitled “South American Music and Culture Magazine”, the publication not only features the more contemporary music production in South America but also brings behavioral issues.

This month, Brazil is the main theme in the magazine and website, on issues as varied as the land disputes between farmers and Guarani Indians in the Mato Grosso or the so famous cachaça. But the big highlight is the partnership between the Sounds and Colours and BM&A with the first release of the compilation Wow,Man! New Sounds of São Paulo, which is available to download for free.

“In partnership with Brazil Music Exchange, this collection contains some of the most exciting artists of today. M. Takara, Guizado, Psilosamples and R.Brandão represent the new electronic/organic music in town” says editor Russ Slater. Worth mentioning too is the new MPB of Bruno Morais, Tulipa Ruiz and Kiko Dinucci.

Another magazine that is including a series of new Brazilian artists in a collection is the Spanish Zona de Obras, published in Zaragoza. The next issue will feature a CD with 15 tracks from artists like: Guizado, Garotas Suecas, Curumin, Thiago Phetit, among others. The magazine has a circulation of 7,000 copies and is available only in Spain. It is sold at newsstands and this physical CD – with the new Brazilian music – will come as a freebie giveaway. The monthly issues are thematic and June will be on São Paulo.

BM&A promotional CDs generating business. Have you made your application?

14 April, 2011 | BM&A Actions

Since its creation in 2001, BM&A has launched promotional CDs that compile what’s new in independent music production in Brazil.

But more than a physical CD, a compilation entitled “The New Brazilian Music” is a gateway to brazilian music in the international market. Through the presence of BM&A and its collaborators in major trade fairs and conventions of music as the Womex (Denmark), South by Southwest (USA), APAP (USA), Liverpool Sound City (England), Baffin (Argentina), MIDEM (France ), the compilation moves through the hands of major labels, producers and contractors abroad to generate great business opportunities.

With partnering with companies of culture and music, the CD was chartered in London Music Week magazine in its issue that brought the release of 7,000 units (and a digital version to 17,000 subscribers) taking 18 names in the new Brazilian music to England in the month of January. That same month, the material circulated by the MIDEM 2011 held annually in Cannes, France.

Of the artists who participated on the CD, Thiago Phetit went to Argentina and the U.S. in March. Luísa Maita and Guizado are already mobilizing to concerts abroad this year. She will pass through France and Portugal in July, after a year of negotiation with agents in USA and Europe, and the international release of the Lero-Lero album through Cumbancha/Putumayo label. The trumpeter Guizado received an invitation to a jazz festival in Turkey.

That same month, “The New Brazilian Music” CDs also circulated by the fair MIDEM 2011, held annually in Cannes, France.
