European magazines eye on Brazilian music

25 May, 2011 | Music Market

Based in London, the magazine Sounds and Colours is a great showcase in England for Sudamerican music. Subtitled “South American Music and Culture Magazine”, the publication not only features the more contemporary music production in South America but also brings behavioral issues.

This month, Brazil is the main theme in the magazine and website, on issues as varied as the land disputes between farmers and Guarani Indians in the Mato Grosso or the so famous cachaça. But the big highlight is the partnership between the Sounds and Colours and BM&A with the first release of the compilation Wow,Man! New Sounds of São Paulo, which is available to download for free.

“In partnership with Brazil Music Exchange, this collection contains some of the most exciting artists of today. M. Takara, Guizado, Psilosamples and R.Brandão represent the new electronic/organic music in town” says editor Russ Slater. Worth mentioning too is the new MPB of Bruno Morais, Tulipa Ruiz and Kiko Dinucci.

Another magazine that is including a series of new Brazilian artists in a collection is the Spanish Zona de Obras, published in Zaragoza. The next issue will feature a CD with 15 tracks from artists like: Guizado, Garotas Suecas, Curumin, Thiago Phetit, among others. The magazine has a circulation of 7,000 copies and is available only in Spain. It is sold at newsstands and this physical CD – with the new Brazilian music – will come as a freebie giveaway. The monthly issues are thematic and June will be on São Paulo.
