Considered one of the most respected festivals in the world, and combining Music, Film and Technology, the 26th edition of South by Southwest, happening in Austin, Texas, between 9th and 18th of March takes to the US a considerable number of Brazilian attendants.

As part of BMA’s plan of promoting Brazilian music abroad, a specific showcase organized by BME’s team will take place on the 14th of March. Entitled “Palco COPA” (World Cup Stage) will count on presentations of a select group of representatives of the so called New Brazilian Music. The international crowd will be able to see live performances of:

Tiê – listen  “Aula de Francês (clipe oficial)”

Agridoce – listen “Dançando”

Tiago Iorc – listen “My Girl”

Some Community – listen  ” Young and Fresh”

Renato Godá – listen  “Outro Cigarro”

Film and Technology

SXSW is also considered an extremely important event related to film and technology, and, just as in the music conference, in 2012, there will be artists representing Brazil in both of these sections of the event too.

There will be more than 100 Brazilian attendants at the Interactive conference, as they call it. Professionals of media and new technologies will gather together to present new ideas and concepts, solutions to modern problems.

For the Film Festival, the country will be represented by the short film “A Fábrica”(The Factory), included on the official line-up of the event. Directed by Aly Muritiba, it tells the story of an inmate that convinces his mother to take a risk smuggling a cell phone for him into the penitentiary.

SXSW – Warm up!

31 January, 2012 | BM&A Actions

January is coming to an end and one of the most expected events of the year is approaching on the calendar. Traditionally held at Austin, Texas, South By Southwest is a reference Film, Interactive and Music conference, filled with lectures, presentations, exhibitions, debates and content. The 26th edition of SXSW promises “expansion of last year’s new initiatives, such as the combined SXSW Trade Show for the Creative Industries, which draws from all the events.”

“The value of meeting people face to face in order to share ideas and do business is what makes SXSW invaluable. SXSW 2012 will once again be a vital launching pad for creative endeavors, drawing attention and participation from around the globe”, said Roland Swenson, Co-Founder and Managing Director in the SXSW official website.

BME and SXSW

SXSW is part of BMA’s official calendar since 2008 and, in 2012, it couldn’t be different – Brazilian artists, agents, managers and label representatives will be attending the music branch of the conference, seeking for the largest number of effective opportunities for the national music industry.

In 2008 Brazilian bands performed at SXSW. In 2009, due to the promotional activity of BM&A (which brought to Brazil, within the project buyer, the director of this festival) 22 bands were selected.

The 2011 edition of SXSW took to Austin artists like Constantina (Belo Horizonte), Kiko Dinucci (Guarulhos), NaurÊa (Aracaju), Nana Rizinni (Sao Paulo), Rosie and Me (Curitiba), Some Community (Sao Paulo), Thiago Pethit (Sao Paulo) and Tiê (Sao Paulo). In the same year BME also established an agreement with GigMaven.com, a new online booking, promotion and ticketing site which through Brasil Music Exchange has recently been extremely pro-active reaching and aiding Brazilian artists.

We will soon release details on this years participant artists and strategies for SXSW.
